versus Editorial · 25 October 2026
Olivia Chow came first in Toronto's mayoral election on Monday 26 October 2026, with 532,201 votes (54.16%) to 404,013 (41.11%) for Brad Bradford on the City of Toronto's unofficial count, all polls in. Elsewhere in this guide, Alvin Tedjo, Keanin Loomis and Shannon Weber finished ahead of the sitting mayors of Mississauga, Hamilton and Waterloo, and when we checked at 06:07 GMT on 27 October, versus showed all 12 of its predictions on these races as settled.
Every count here is unofficial until the city's clerk declares the result, usually a few days after voting day, says the Ontario government's voters' guide. Polls closed at 8 p.m. Eastern daylight time, 00:00 GMT on Tuesday 27 October; any UK time below without a date is on that day. This guide is for readers in Great Britain.
Five big cities, count by count
Toronto. The City's results site shows the mayor, Olivia Chow, "leading" with all 1,431 polls in, on unofficial results as of 01:10 a.m. Toronto time on 27 October (05:10 GMT). All nine answers on the Hamilton prediction were on the ballot.
Seven more cities
- London: unconfirmed, as the city's results site did not respond to us. CBC News listed the mayor, Josh Morgan, as mayor-elect at 11:47 p.m. Eastern on 26 October (03:47 GMT), citing the city's unofficial results, and CTV News reported him re-elected. He is one of three answers on the London prediction.
- Markham: Frank Scarpitti 58,260 votes, Martin Ross 13,152 and Stephen Edgell 9,658 on the city's results page; a city release of 26 October lists Scarpitti as the successful candidate. Both Scarpitti and Ross are answers on the Markham prediction.
- Vaughan: Steven Del Duca 57,189 votes (81.5%) and Shelly-Ann Starlette Cerrelli 12,941 (18.5%), all 71 voting locations closed, on the city's elections page; a city release at 11:20 p.m. on 26 October (03:20 GMT) names Del Duca. Parveen Bola, the third answer on the Vaughan prediction, was not on the ballot.

- Burlington: unconfirmed, as the city's website refused our requests. The local news site Inside Halton reported unofficial results with every voting location in at 10:10 p.m. Eastern on 26 October (02:10 GMT): Marianne Meed Ward 25,025 votes, Lisa Kearns 17,070 and Rory Nisan 12,650. The five names it lists are the five answers on the Burlington prediction.
- Pickering: Kevin Ashe 13,038 votes (36.5%), Lisa Robinson 8,867 (24.8%) and Janice Frampton 4,917 (13.8%) on the city's unofficial results page, all six tabulators closed and online votes tallied when we read it at 05:27 GMT. All seven candidates are answers on the Pickering prediction.
The 12 versus predictions, now settled
Each of the 12 asked whom the 26 October vote would make mayor of its city. A stopgap mayor named before voting day did not count, and no more than one listed name could settle Yes. Matching reports from reliable news outlets came first, and the city's official results were to decide if those reports were unclear or disputed (what market resolution means). All 12 also had a long stop: with still no known result at 04:59 BST on Thursday 1 July 2027 (11:59 p.m. on 30 June in Ontario), no listed name would have been Yes.
Their end dates had all passed, the last at 03:59 GMT on 27 October, and versus marked the 12 as settled between 05:58 and 06:01 GMT that morning. The counts above can be set against each prediction's answers.
From unofficial count to declared result
- This week: each clerk declares the candidate with the most votes elected as soon as possible after voting day, with no second round (section 55 of the Municipal Elections Act, 1996). Hamilton and Markham expect to certify later this week, Vaughan will release certified results as soon as they are ready, and Toronto posts its clerk's declarations on its general election results page.
- Within 15 days of a declaration: an automatic recount, but only for a tie or where a council's own recount policy calls for one (section 56). A council can also order a recount within 30 days (section 57), and a tie that survives a recount is decided by lot (section 62). None of the nine counts we read is a tie.
- Sunday 15 November 2026: the new four-year term begins (section 6).
