versus Editorial · 30 October 2026
The versus predictions measure Godzilla Minus Zero's Rotten Tomatoes score at 15:00 UK time (GMT) on Monday 9 November 2026, three days after the film opens in UK cinemas, and at 05:56 UK time on 30 October 2026 its page showed 92% from 50 critic reviews. At 06:26 UK time on 30 October 2026 the versus page showed 77p for Yes on the prediction that the score will then be 90% or more, the market's estimate of a 77% chance.
Until then the score can change with every review. This article is for readers in Great Britain and is not advice.
The page a week before release
Of those 50 reviews, 46 were positive and 4 negative: exactly 92%. The Popcornmeter, the audience score, had no ratings yet, as Rotten Tomatoes normally opens audience ratings only once a film is released.
Takashi Yamazaki, who made Godzilla Minus One (2023), wrote and directed the film. Toho releases it in Japan on Tuesday 3 November, and its North American distributor GKIDS gives it a wide release from Friday 6 November, according to the GKIDS announcement of 9 January 2026. Toho's release dates by territory on the official Godzilla site, read on 30 October, give 6 November for the United Kingdom too.
How Rotten Tomatoes reaches a percentage
Rotten Tomatoes' About page and FAQ, read on 30 October 2026, define the Tomatometer as the share of reviews by approved critics that are positive. Each review is either Fresh or Rotten, so the score records how many critics came down on the positive side, not how warmly. A film counts as Fresh at 60% or more.
A score appears only once there are enough reviews: 10, 20 or 40 depending on an independent box office forecast, and 10 for a festival debut, says a Rotten Tomatoes article linked from the About page. This film is past all three bars. Scores keep changing as the number of reviews changes, the FAQ says; with 50 reviews, each is 2% of the total.
The page also has a Top Critics view, for critics given that status by a selection panel. The rules leave it and the Popcornmeter aside: they name the All Critics figure, the main Tomatometer on the page.
Eight lines, one reading
versus has eight separate Yes or No predictions, each with its own price. All eight read the All Critics Tomatometer on the film's page at 10:00 Eastern Time on Monday 9 November. Eastern Time leaves daylight saving on 1 November (NIST) and the UK clocks went back on 25 October (GOV.UK), so the reading falls at 15:00 UK time. Each settles Yes if the figure shown then is at or above its line, and No if it is below.
At 06:26 UK time on 30 October 2026 the versus pages showed these prices for Yes:
- 70% or more: 99.9p
- 80% or more: 99.9p
- 85% or more: 96.7p
- 90% or more: 77p
- 92% or more: 65.3p
- 94% or more: 31.3p
- 96% or more: 9.7p
- 98% or more: 3.6p
A price of 40p would be the market's estimate of a 40% chance. The eight prices belong to separate predictions and do not have to add up to anything.
Say the page shows 93% at the reading: Yes would be right on the lines from 70% to 92%, and No on 94%, 96% and 98%. A contract on the right answer settles at 100p, one on the wrong answer at 0p. Our guide to score predictions walks through two earlier readings.
If no figure can be read at 15:00, the page is looked at again until one can; with none by 23:59 Eastern Time on Friday 13 November (04:59 UK time on Saturday 14 November), all eight settle No. Only the 2026 film's page counts; the separate page of Godzilla Minus One (2023), which showed 99% from 213 reviews at 05:39 UK time on 30 October, plays no part.
From release week to the Oscars
- Tuesday 3 November: Toho's release in Japan. Ticket sales do not move the Tomatometer, which is built from critics' reviews alone.
- Friday 6 November: the UK release and the wide release across North America. Separate versus predictions cover the film's domestic opening weekend takings (the United States, or the United States and Canada) over 6 to 8 November, in US currency and measured with The Numbers.
- Monday 9 November, 15:00 UK time: the reading, one minute after the end date versus lists for the eight predictions. The figure shown at that moment decides all eight, whatever it was before or becomes after.
- Saturday 14 November, 04:59 UK time: the final cut-off, used only if no figure could be read at 15:00 on 9 November.
- Thursday 21 January 2027: the Oscar nominations, according to the Academy's press release of 7 April 2026 (its dates may change). The versus predictions on nominations for the film in Best Visual Effects and Best Sound settle on the nominations, not on a shortlist or the Tomatometer; our Oscars 2027 guide explains them.
