Will the US Confirm Aliens Exist? What the UAP Files Say
The US has released UAP files since May 2026, but its own pages call them unresolved. See what counts as confirmation and how the alien predictions settle.
versus Editorial · 2 October 2026
As of 8 October 2026 the US government has not confirmed that aliens exist. On versus at 08:09 UK time that day, Yes on the prediction Will US officials confirm alien life? priced 2.9p, a 2.9% chance, though a price is only the market's estimate at one moment and it can move fast. The Department of War calls the files in its UAP archive unresolved cases, and the FAQ of its anomaly office, AARO, answers no to the question whether the Department has found any evidence of extraterrestrial technology.
Three live predictions on versus touch this subject: two ask whether the US will confirm that extraterrestrial life or technology exists, one by date and one as Yes or No, and a third asks whether UFO files that were never public before will be declassified by 31 October 2026. This guide is written for readers in Great Britain.
The Short Answer
- Files are not confirmation. The US government has published declassified UAP files since 8 May 2026, but the Department of War's own page calls the archive unresolved cases.
- AARO's FAQ says no evidence has been found. It answers a plain no to the question whether the Department has found any evidence of extraterrestrial technology, and says its examination of sightings is ongoing.
- There is no seventh release yet. On 8 October 2026 WAR.GOV/UFO still showed the sixth release, of 18 September, as the latest.
- The 30 September date has passed. The pages checked on 8 October show no confirmation, and the date prediction still lists a 30 September answer, at 0.1p.
- The files prediction is about files, not aliens. It turns on files that were never public before being declassified by 31 October 2026.
- You can lose the whole amount. A winning contract settles at 100p and a losing one at 0p.
What the US Government Has Released
These details come from the Department of War's own pages, including WAR.GOV/UFO, checked on 8 October 2026.
- 19 February 2026: the President said on Truth Social that he would direct the Secretary of War and other departments to begin identifying and releasing government files related to alien and extraterrestrial life, unidentified aerial phenomena and UFOs.
- 8 May 2026: the first release under PURSUE, the Presidential Unsealing and Reporting System for UAP Encounters, an interagency effort that includes the White House, intelligence agencies, the Department of Energy, AARO, NASA and the FBI. The department said the files had been reviewed for security, but that many had not yet been analysed to resolve any anomalies.
- 18 September 2026: the sixth release. The department said it is working on the next one and will keep releasing files on a rolling basis, but it has not named a date.
- The archive: WAR.GOV/UFO lists 450 files across the six releases, searchable by release, agency and file type.
What the Government Says the Files Show
- Unresolved cases. The PURSUE page says the archive holds unresolved cases, where the government cannot make a definitive determination about what was observed, for reasons that include a lack of sufficient data.
- A very large search. The department describes work across dozens of agencies and tens of millions of records, many of them only on paper, with new batches planned every few weeks.
- Unidentified is not extraterrestrial. UAP stands for unidentified anomalous phenomena, the term the US government uses for sightings it cannot immediately identify. AARO's FAQ says a sighting often stays unidentified simply because sensors did not collect enough information. It lists everyday causes of reports such as balloons, aircraft, drones, rocket launches, satellites and bright planets.
None of this says that extraterrestrial life or technology has been found. An unresolved case is one the government cannot explain yet, which is not the same as one it has explained as extraterrestrial.
How the Confirmation Predictions Settle
Every market on versus names the source that settles it before you trade. When will the US government confirm aliens are real? has two answers, the dates 30 September and 31 December. Will US officials confirm alien life? is a Yes or No question about the same event. The rules, in short:
- What has to happen: an authorised US official or federal agency must definitively confirm the existence of extraterrestrial life or extraterrestrial technology. The Yes or No prediction adds that the statement must be direct, so rumours, leaks and unexplained sightings do not count.
- Who can do it: the President, any member of the Cabinet, any member of the Joint Chiefs of Staff or any federal agency.
- The cut-off: the end of 31 December 2026 in US Eastern time, which is 4:59am UK time on 1 January 2027. The date prediction words it as 5:59am CET on 1 January 2027.
- The source: official US government information is the primary source, and credible reporting can also be used. If it does not happen, the market resolves as a no.
The key word is "definitively". A release of files, an order to release them, or a statement that a case is unresolved says nothing about whether aliens exist. Whether a particular future statement counts is for the market's rules to decide, not this article.
How the Files Prediction Settles
The third prediction, Will Trump declassify secret UFO files?, is a yes or no question about files that were never public before.
- The window: from 22 September 2026 to 11:59pm US Eastern time on 31 October 2026, which is 3:59am UK time on 1 November. The sixth release, of 18 September, came before the window opened.
- What counts: any files about extraterrestrial life, unexplained aerial phenomena or both that had never been publicly available before, declassified by the President's office or by any executive-branch department or agency, including the Department of War. The rules treat the Department of Defense and the Department of War as one and the same department.
- What does not count: a declassification that is only announced and not carried out inside the window.
- The source: official US government information is the main basis, with broad agreement among reliable reports also taken into account.
Whether a future release lands inside the window and holds files that were never public before is what the rules turn on.
What the Prices Showed
These readings were taken at 08:09 UK time on 8 October 2026, and each price is a probability estimate between 0p and 100p. Yes or No confirmation prediction: Yes 2.9p, No 97.2p. Date prediction: 31 December 2.9p, 30 September 0.1p. Files prediction: Yes 66.5p, No 33.5p. Prices of separate answers do not have to add up to 100p, and they can move fast.
A Worked Example
Say the 31 December answer on the date prediction trades at 4p. You put 400p into it, which buys 100 contracts. The transaction fee is 2% of the stake, added on top, so it comes to 8p and 408p leaves your balance. The fee is shown before you confirm.
- If an authorised official or agency definitively confirms it by the cut-off: the 100 contracts settle at 100p each, 10,000p in total.
- If that does not happen: the contracts settle at 0p and the 408p is gone.
- If you change your mind first: while the market is open you can sell at the current price. Say a headline moves the price to 1p. Selling the 100 contracts at 1p gives you 100p back, a loss, but a smaller one than if they settled at 0p.
In every case, the most this position could cost you was the 408p you saw before confirming. There is no leverage and no margin call, so a market moving against you cannot leave you owing money.
Checks Before You Open a Position
- Read the rules first. They say who can confirm, what counts as definitive and the exact cut-off time.
- Be clear which question you are trading. Releasing files and confirming that aliens exist are different events, and these predictions ask different things.
- Decide what you are prepared to lose in full. The stake and the 2% fee are shown before you confirm, and together they are the most the position can cost you.

Where to Find These Predictions
versus is a prediction market app across politics, finance, sport, AI, crypto and entertainment. The current predictions include all three of these. How it works follows one position from opening to settlement, and how to verify market rules goes through the rules line by line.
versus is licensed by the UK Gambling Commission under account 101143, which you can check on the Commission's public register. Positions settle in ordinary money, not cryptocurrency, and customer money is held separately from company money.
The Bottom Line
Confirming that aliens exist is a different event from releasing more files, and each prediction settles only on what its rules say. Any position can settle at 0p, so only put in what you are comfortable losing. Prediction markets are entertainment with real money at stake, not a way to make money.
Frequently asked questions

No. On 8 October 2026 the Department of War's archive calls its files unresolved cases, and AARO's FAQ answers no to the question whether the Department has found any evidence of extraterrestrial technology.
When is the next release of UAP files?
No date has been named. The Department of War says it posts new batches every few weeks and is working on the next one, and the sixth release was on 18 September 2026.
Does a release of UFO files settle the confirmation predictions?
No. Those predictions need a definitive confirmation that extraterrestrial life or technology exists by the end of 31 December 2026 in US Eastern time. Only the files prediction turns on a release.
