versus Editorial · 1 October 2026
As of 8 October 2026 nobody can say who will win Euro 2028, the men's European Championship, because no nation has qualified yet: UEFA holds the qualifying draw on Sunday 6 December 2026, and the tournament runs from 9 June to 9 July 2028 across the United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland. On versus, at 08:09 UK time on 8 October 2026, the highest price was Spain at 22.5p, a 22.5% chance, ahead of France at 19.5p and England at 15.5p.
Those prices come from one live prediction, Which nation wins the next Euros?, with 32 nations listed as answers. This guide covers the dates and qualifying rules UEFA has published, how the prediction settles and what a position can cost you.
The Short Answer
- The dates are set. The opening match is in Cardiff on Friday 9 June 2028, and the final is at Wembley on Sunday 9 July 2028.
- 24 nations, 51 matches. England, Scotland, Wales and the Republic of Ireland stage the matches, at nine stadiums in eight cities.
- Qualifying comes first. The draw is on 6 December 2026 in Belfast, the group matches run from March to November 2027 and the play-offs follow in March 2028.
- Qualifying is part of the prediction. If a nation can no longer win under UEFA's rules, its answer settles at 0p.
- You can lose the whole amount. A winning contract settles at 100p and a losing one at 0p.
What UEFA Has Confirmed
These details come from UEFA's own pages, such as EURO 2028: All you need to know and the confirmed tournament schedule, checked on 8 October 2026.
- The dates: 9 June to 9 July 2028, 31 days in all.
- The opening match: at the National Stadium of Wales in Cardiff on Friday 9 June.
- The last week: the semi-finals are at Wembley on Tuesday 4 July and Wednesday 5 July, and the final is there on Sunday 9 July, with a 5pm UK kick-off.
- The format: 24 teams play in six groups. The top two in each group go through, together with the four best third-placed teams, and from the round of 16 it is straight knockout.
- The stadiums: nine, in Cardiff, Dublin, Glasgow, Liverpool, Manchester, Newcastle, Birmingham and London, where both Wembley and the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium are used.
How Qualifying Works
Most of this prediction is decided in qualifying, because a nation has to reach the finals before it can win them. UEFA's rules work like this.
- The groups: twelve groups of four or five teams, who play each other home and away. The draw is on Sunday 6 December 2026 in Belfast, and the group matches run from March to November 2027.
- Direct places: the 12 group winners and the 8 best runners-up, 20 teams in all, go straight to the finals.
- The play-offs: the remaining places are decided in March 2028, between the remaining runners-up and the best-ranked group winners from the 2026/27 UEFA Nations League that have not already qualified.
- The hosts: England, Scotland, Wales and the Republic of Ireland take part in qualifying like everyone else and do not qualify automatically. UEFA's qualification system reserves two places for the two best-ranked hosts that miss out on a direct place, so between two and four places are left for the play-offs.
The draw matters because it sets each nation's route, and a tough group or a kind one can change how the market sees that nation.
How This Prediction Settles
Every market on versus names the source that settles it before you trade. This one is called Which nation wins the next Euros? and its rules name official information from UEFA, with credible reporting also allowed. At the time of writing it lists 32 nations as answers, including all four hosts. Each nation has its own price between 0p and 100p, which is the market's estimate of how likely that nation is to win. When the winner is known, a contract on that nation settles at 100p and the other answers settle at 0p.
At 08:09 UK time on 8 October 2026, six nations were priced at 5p or more and 19 of the 32 at 1p or less. Prices of separate answers do not have to add up to 100p.
The rules also cover the cases that matter in a market this long:
- A nation that cannot win any more. Once a listed nation's route to the title is closed under UEFA's rules, for instance after it loses a play-off, its answer settles as a loss at once. A nation that fails to qualify does not have to wait for the final.
- A tournament that does not finish. If the tournament is called off, pushed back past 24 July 2028 or has no declared winner by then, the market settles as "Other", not on any nation.
The market page shows when the market closes. At the time of writing it runs to late July 2028, a couple of weeks after the final. When markets close explains how end dates work.
A Worked Example
Say one nation's answer trades at 8p. You put 400p into it, which buys 50 contracts. The 2% transaction fee is added on top, 8p, so 408p leaves your balance.
- If that nation wins the tournament: the 50 contracts settle at 100p each, 5,000p in total.
- If it fails to qualify, or goes out at any later stage: they settle at 0p as soon as it can no longer win, and the 408p is gone.
- If you sell first: say the nation has a poor qualifying campaign and the price falls to 3p. Selling the 50 contracts at 3p gives you 150p back, a loss, but a smaller one than a settlement at 0p.
The most this position could cost you was the 408p you saw before confirming. There is no leverage and no margin call.
What Can Move the Prices
Prices on a market this far from the final follow the news. The draw on 6 December 2026, results through 2027 and the play-offs in March 2028 can all move them quickly, and once the finals start each knockout round removes nations. A price is the market's estimate at a given moment, not a promise, so a nation can look likely for a long time and still fall short. Only UEFA's official result decides the market.
Checks Before You Open a Position
- Read the rules first. They say which source settles the market and what happens to a nation that can no longer win.
- Remember there are two questions. A nation has to qualify, then win the tournament, and its price reflects both. The market stays open until late July 2028, and the price you get if you sell depends on the market at that moment.
- Decide what you are prepared to lose in full. The stake and the 2% fee are shown before you confirm, and together they are the most the position can cost you.

versus is licensed by the UK Gambling Commission under account 101143, which you can check on the Commission's public register. A 2% transaction fee is added on top of the stake and shown before you confirm, and while a market is open you can sell at the current price. Positions settle in ordinary money, not cryptocurrency, and customer money is held separately from company money.
Safer Play is built into the app: deposit limits, loss limits, reality checks, time out and self exclusion, alongside GAMSTOP. The safer play page explains each tool, how it works follows one position from opening to settlement, and how to verify market rules goes through the rules line by line. Only put in what you are comfortable losing. Prediction markets are entertainment with real money at stake, not a way to make money.
