GLM 5.4 Release Date: What Z.ai Has Said and How It Settles
When will GLM 5.4 come out? Z.ai has named no date. Its launch history, what counts as a release and how the prediction on versus settles.
versus Editorial · 7 October 2026
As of 7 October 2026, Z.ai's own pages give no date for GLM 5.4 or any newer GLM model, and no such model is public yet. Its newest flagship is GLM-5.3, launched on 14 August 2026 according to its launch post, and the latest entry in its release notes is GLM-5.3-Flash, dated 26 August 2026. Until Z.ai names a date, any date you see for GLM 5.4 is an estimate, not an announcement.
One live prediction on versus, When does GLM 5.4 or a newer Z.ai model come out?, asks by which date a qualifying release will happen. At 07:26 on 7 October 2026 it priced the answer 31 October at 79.5p, a 79.5% chance. A price is the market's probability estimate between 0p and 100p: a winning contract settles at 100p and a losing one at 0p, so you can lose the whole amount you put into a position. The answers 15 September and 30 September stood at 0.1p each. Both dates have passed with no qualifying release, so neither can come true now.
What Z.ai has said about its next model
GLM is the model family from Z.ai, which also uses the name Zhipu AI. Among the pages checked on 7 October 2026, the only mention of a next model is in the launch post for GLM-5.3-Flash, dated 26 August 2026. Z.ai writes there that it is scaling the recipe behind that model to larger models and that the work is already shaping its "next frontier model". The post gives no name, no version number and no date.
The same post says Z.ai tested GLM-5.3-Flash anonymously, under the code name ox-alpha, on two third-party developer platforms before launch. A code name carries no GLM version number, so a test like that would not settle the prediction.
None of these Z.ai pages mentions GLM 5.4 or gives a dated roadmap:
- The release notes in its developer documentation: the newest entry is dated 26 August 2026.
- The model overview in the same documentation: it lists GLM-5.3 and GLM-5.3-Flash as the latest models.
- The zai-org organisation on Hugging Face: its newest model repositories date from 25 August 2026.
- The GLM-5 repository on GitHub: its introduction leads with GLM-5.3 and GLM-5.3-Flash.
- The Z.ai chat site: it describes its assistant as powered by GLM-5.3-Flash.
How Z.ai has spaced its flagship launches
Z.ai dates each launch post on its blog. The flagship launches since July 2025, plus GLM-5.3-Flash, are:
- GLM-4.5: 28 July 2025
- GLM-4.6: 30 September 2025
- GLM-4.7: 22 December 2025
- GLM-5: 12 February 2026
- GLM-5.1: 7 April 2026
- GLM-5.2: 16 June 2026
- GLM-5.3: 14 August 2026 (the release notes list it under 18 August)
- GLM-5.3-Flash: 26 August 2026 (a separate model, listed beside GLM-5.3)
Counting from one flagship launch to the next, the six gaps were 64, 83, 52, 54, 70 and 59 days. On 7 October, 54 days have passed since 14 August, and 31 October falls 78 days after it. Five of the six gaps were shorter than 78 days and one, 83 days, was longer. That is arithmetic on past dates, not a schedule or a forecast, and the next gap could be shorter or longer than any of them.
How the prediction settles
Every market on versus names the source that settles it before you trade. Here it is Z.ai’s own announcements and pages, with news coverage as a cross-check. Each answer is a date: a contract on it settles at 100p if a qualifying model reaches the public by then, and at 0p if not. The rules count a release like this:
- The model. It belongs to the main GLM line, has GLM in its name and carries a version number above 5.3. Skipped numbers are fine, so GLM-5.5 or GLM-6 would count. A model numbered 5.3 or lower does not, and nor does a variant that is not the next flagship, such as GLM-5.3-Flash.
- Newly public. It reaches the public after the prediction was created on 28 August 2026. A later stage of a model that was already public by then does not count: the open weights of GLM-5.3, whose first files are dated 27 August 2026, are an example.
- Open to anyone. An open beta or a waitlist anyone can join counts. Access limited to selected testers does not.
- Clear evidence. Z.ai announces it as open to the public, or it is usable and clearly labelled on Z.ai's official website. A page that names a version nobody can actually use does not count.
The 15 September and 30 September answers have passed without a qualifying release, so they cannot be right. 31 October is the only answer still open: a qualifying release on 20 October would make it right, and no release by the close, given on the market page as 03:59 UTC on 1 November 2026, would make all three wrong.
Dates and signals to watch
None of Z.ai's pages gives a dated roadmap, so most dates below are day counts from past launches or from the prediction's own calendar, not announcements.
- 12 to 23 October 2026: where gaps of 59, 64 and 70 days after 14 August would land. A qualifying public launch on any day before 31 October would make the 31 October answer right.
- 31 October and 1 November 2026: the date of the last open answer, then the close at 03:59 UTC. With no qualifying launch by then, a contract on each of the three answers would settle at 0p.
- 5 November 2026: 83 days after 14 August, the longest of the six gaps. A launch after the close counts for none of the answers.
- Any day: a launch post on Z.ai's blog, a new entry in its release notes or a new repository under zai-org on Hugging Face. A code-named test, a closed preview or another 5.3 variant would not count. A model named above 5.3 that anyone can use would.

Frequently asked questions
Is GLM 5.4 out yet?
No. As of 7 October 2026 it appears in none of Z.ai's release notes, documentation, blog posts, Hugging Face model repositories or GitHub pages, and GLM-5.3 is still the latest flagship.
What is the latest GLM model?
GLM-5.3 is the latest flagship, launched on 14 August 2026 according to Z.ai's blog. GLM-5.3-Flash, dated 26 August 2026, is the most recent entry in its release notes.
Will the next Z.ai model be called GLM 5.4?
Z.ai has not said. Its last four flagships went up in steps of 0.1, but the prediction counts any main GLM model numbered above 5.3, including GLM-5.5 or GLM-6.
Does releasing the weights count as the release date?
Not by itself. The prediction looks for the first day the public can use a qualifying model, and a later weights release of a model that is already public is not a new release. GLM-5.3's launch post promised its weights two weeks after launch.
