This market will resolve to "Yes" if Lionel Messi officially announces his retirement from club football by 05:59 CET/CEST on January 1, 2027. Otherwise, it will resolve to "No". For a "Yes" resolution, the announcement must clearly state that Messi is retiring from, or indefinitely leaving, club football with the intention of not taking part in any club competition. It must come from Messi himself or his official representatives. Only announcements framed as a departure intended to take effect within twelve months of the announcement will qualify. Statements such as "I will leave club football in two years" or "I will not play forever" would not. If Messi retires in a qualifying manner but continues, renews or announces his intention to continue playing international football, for example for Argentina, the retirement will still qualify. International football has no bearing on this market. The primary resolution source will be official statements from Messi or his authorised representatives. A consensus of credible reporting may also be used.
